Same-Day Crowns

Same day crowns from Harry Albers DDSSanta Rosa, CA.
Your teeth are strong. They are the strongest substance in your body. Their strength enables them to withstand a substantial amount of daily use. While the teeth are incredibly strong, they can still suffer physical damage or decay that can weaken and compromise them. Issues like facial trauma, biting down on a hard object, or tooth decay can put a tooth at risk for further damage and painful, dangerous infections. If you have suffered tooth damage, Harry Albers DDS can restore the affected teeth with same day crowns.

What is a Crown?

Minor tooth damage, such as a small chip, crack, or cavity, can often be treated with minimally invasive treatments such as bonding, veneers, or fillings. More significant damage, however, requires a more substantial treatment. A crown is a restoration designed to treat a damaged or decayed tooth. It resembles a small cap and is meant to encase the entire visible surface of the tooth, providing it with protection from further harm and infections. It also restores strength to the tooth, enabling it to function normally. Crowns can be made from many different materials, including metal, porcelain fused to metal, and porcelain.

How is a Crown Usually Placed?

Typically, a crown requires two separate appointments to place. At the first appointment, the tooth is prepared, and impressions are taken. Preparing the tooth requires the removal of tooth enamel to reduce it in size. Impressions are taken and then sent to a lab. The lab uses these impressions to design and fabricate the final crown. Because the process can take up to 2 weeks, a temporary crown is placed on the tooth while you wait. Once the crown is completed, the second appointment takes place. At this appointment, the crown is checked for fit and bite before being bonded into place.

Same Day Crowns

With same day crowns, you can receive your crown in just a single appointment. This is possible thanks to CAD/CAM technology and an in-house milling unit. The process begins the same. First, the tooth is prepared. Next, impressions are taken. The impression is taken digitally and displayed on a computer monitor. Specialized software allows us to custom create your crown based on the exact specifications of your mouth.

Once the design phase is complete, the information is sent to our in-house milling unit. This unit then cuts out your crown from a block of ceramic. Once complete, the crown is polished and finished. We check it for fit and bite. If any adjustments are needed, they can be done right on-site. When everything looks and feels good, the crown is bonded onto the tooth.

What are the Benefits of Same Day Crowns?

There are numerous benefits associated with same day crowns. Many of these benefits include providing a tooth with protection from further damage and infections while restoring the strength of the affected tooth. The biggest benefit is that the same-day crown takes only a single appointment. You do not need to worry about additional appointments in your busy schedule. There is also no need for a temporary crown. This reduces your risk for infections and other complications.

Same day crowns help to restore damaged teeth, protecting them and allowing them to function normally, without the need for temporary restorations or additional appointments. If you have suffered tooth damage, call Harry Albers DDS at (707) 575-1190 to schedule your appointment today.
